Cookie Policy
This policy describes the cookies and similar storage Best School Tools uses. It should be read with the Privacy Policy.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We also use browser localStorage for the same kind of choice (whether you accepted optional cookies).
2. Essential cookies (always on)
These are needed for the site to work. UK PECR / ePrivacy rules allow them without a marketing-style opt-in.
| Name | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
sessionId | Keeps you signed in. HTTP-only, Secure in production, SameSite=Lax. | 7 days |
cart | Stores a lesson cart if you are not signed in. HTTP-only. | 7 days |
bst_cookie_consent | Remembers whether you accepted or refused optional cookies. | 1 year |
bogo_promo_dismissed | Remembers that you closed a promotional banner. | 14 days |
Coding-assistant code_* cookies | Saves draft code in the in-browser interpreter so a refresh does not wipe it. | 30 days |
We also set a server-side session record in our database tied to sessionId.
3. Optional cookies (off until you accept)
Google Ads conversion tracking (tag AW-11532209661) is used to measure whether an ad led to a signup. It is not loaded with advertising storage enabled until you click “Accept optional cookies”. If you choose “Essential only”, ads measurement stays off.
Google may set its own cookies on google.com / doubleclick.net if you accept. Google’s policy: policies.google.com/privacy.
4. How to choose
The banner on your first visit lets you accept optional cookies or continue with essential cookies only. To change your mind later, clear this site’s cookies (or localStorage key bst.cookieConsent) and reload, or email [email protected].
You can also block cookies in your browser. Blocking essential cookies will stop login from working.
5. Other similar technology
- Cloudflare may set a security cookie as part of its CDN and bot protection.
- Google Fonts and icon CDNs may see your IP address when the page loads styles; they are not used to advertise to you.
